International Week starts this Saturday, April 5- Friday, April 11!
Carry your country’s banner for the Parade of Banners! International Week
2008 “Culture Splash” will officially commence on Monday, April 7 at 12pm with
the Parade of Banners. You still have time to sign up to carry your country (or
any other country’s) banner. Banner carriers are encouraged to dress up to
share their culture. Sign up in the Swift Center, or email Katina Vassileva at

Also don’t miss this Thursday: Panel Discussion on Darfur. Apr 4, 7pm.
Nedderman Hall, room 100. The Panel will be moderated by Dr. Rick Halperin,
Director of the Human Rights Department at SMU. Panelists include: Dr. Alusine
Jalloh, Director of the African Program at UT Arlington, Victoria Smith, a human
rights activist who has worked in Chad refugee camps twice during the past
year. There will also be a refugee from Darfur present.
International Week 2008: Don’t miss out on all the fun, food, music and
dancing next week! This year’s theme is “Culture Splash,” and the week-long
festival includes a soccer tournament, the annual Parade of Banners led by the
widely recognized UTA Samba Band with an introductory speech by esteemed
Dr. Alan Saxe, the Grand Opening Ceremony with student performances, a
Food Fair featuring food from all over the world made by UTA’s international
students, an international Fashion Show, a special guest speaker, visiting
Fulbright professor Dr. Daramola from Nigeria, intriguing and intricate cultural
exhibits created by the students, and open to viewing all week including visits
by local elementary and middle schools, along with a talent show showcasing
all the spectacular talents of the many and varied international students who
have come to UTA from countries all over the world. You won’t want to miss
it!

Monday, April 7
Noon: Parade of Banners
12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.: Grand Opening Ceremony
Noon to 2 p.m.: Nationality/Cultural Exhibits
Tuesday, April 8
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Food Fair, University Center Mall: The community will be
able to purchase ethnic food items from the booths of different nationalities.
2 to 4 p.m.: Nationality/Cultural Exhibits
Wednesday, April 9
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Nationality/Cultural Exhibits
Noon to 1 p.m.: “African Musical Traditions”, Concho Room in the University
Center: A lecture by visiting Nigerian Scholar Dr. Darmaola. Co-sponsored by
the College of Liberal Arts.
7 to 9 p.m.: Fashion Show: A fun, cultural night of ethnic outfits and
costumes.
Thursday, April 10
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Nationality/Cultural Exhibits
Friday, April 11
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Global Extravaganza Talent Show: Provides an array of
cultural performances, ranging from song and dance to drama.
More than 5,000 people from the UT Arlington and local community attend this
event yearly in celebration of international exchange and multicultural diversity.
