Topic of meeting:

Based on student enthusiasm for the topic, we are going
to explore the SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF THE ARLINGTON STADIUM
PROPOSAL. Student led research teams will look at historical trends in
proposal and levy voting in Arlington, will look at the economic impacts
of similar stadium proposals in other North American cities, will
explore the neighborhoods that will be displaced in terms of number of
households and the extent to which there is equivalent housing in the
Arlington area for these displaced residents. In addition, some surveys
and/or in-depth interviews will be conducted in the neighborhoods
proposed to be affected by the new stadium.

One of the short-term goals of this research is for students to write guest
columns and/or editorials regarding their findings in area newspapers (e.g.,
Shorthorn, Arlington Star Telegram) before the November 2nd elections.

You will get real-world, hands-on experience learning and doing both
quantitative and qualitative research that can potentially make a difference
on November 2nd.

WHAT: Research Planning and Interest Meeting
WHEN: Wednesday, Sept 15, Noon
WHERE: UH 418
WHO: All majors, undergrad and grad students, welcomed!
