The Office of Accounting and Business Services would like to clarify last
years change in the capital equipment threshold for UTA.

Effective September 1, 2001, UTA increased the capitalization threshold for
equipment from $1,000 to $5,000.

The current definition of capital equipment is any property item with a
single unit value of $5,000 or greater and an estimated useful life of more
than one year.

Purchases of capital equipment must be coded with the correct capital object
code when processing payments in DEFINE.
