Week of Mar 25-

OIE EVENTS

Global Grounds International Coffee Hour  Thursday, March 27, Palo Duro in the 
UC, 4-5:30pm.  Enjoy free snacks, chai, and coffee, while hanging out with 
your friends!   Open to entire UTA community, bring your friends! 

International Spouses Club  Friday, March 28 Swift Center, 1:30-3pm.  If you 
are a spouse of an international student /scholar or are interested in our 
meetings, please come!  Meet other international spouses and enjoy great 
conversation. 

Carry your country’s banner for the Parade of Banners!  International Week 
2008 “Culture Splash” will officially commence on Monday, April 7 at 12pm with 
the Parade of Banners.  You still have time to sign up to carry your country (or 
any other country’s) banner. Banner carriers are encouraged to dress up to 
share their culture.  Sign up in the Swift Center, or email Katina Vassileva at

International Week 2008 “Culture Splash” is just around the corner!  Events

CAMPUS EVENTS

Women’s History Month: Women and Activism: Winifred Breines. Wed, Mar 26, 
Central Library, 6th Floor Parlor. 12-1pm.  Winifred Breines, Professor of 
Sociology, Northeastern University will speak on The Trouble Between Us: 
White and Black Women in the Early Second Wave Feminist Movement.

Great Discussion Event: International Terrorism and al-Qaeda Wed, March 26th 
in UH10 from 12-1:00pm.  The World Affairs Council of UTA will be hosting 
professor Brent Sasley who will discuss what terrorism is, according to the 
standard definition used by analysts, explain what al-Qaeda is (how it is 
structured, what its goals are, etc), and open up the floor to questions.

Diversity Workshop: Maversity- Deconstructing Racism-Stereotypes Wed. Mar. 
26, Noon, San Saba. *Free Lunch served at all workshops* Maversity is a new 
multicultural leadership training program open to all UTA students. The fun and 
interactive workshops are designed to encourage dialogue amongst

OneBook Conversations- Genomics and the Legalization of Life- Victoria Farrar-
Myers Fri, Mar 28. 12-1pm. 6th Floor Parlor, Library.  Talk will be presented by 
Political Science Professor Victoria Farrar-Myers and Tim Henry, UT Arlington

HOLI: Indian Festival of Colors! Sat, Mar 29, 12-2pm, Intramural Soccer 
Fields.  Come throw colors at each other while celebrating this Indian tradition.

ARTISTIC PERFORMANCES

Katyukova Guest Piano Recital Wed, Mar 26, 7:30pm,  Irons Recital Hall (FA 
105) An all Chopin recital with award-winning guest piano performer Natalia

Anshelevic Guest Cello Recital Fri Mar 28, 7:30pm, Irons Recital Hall (105 Fine 
Arts Building) Free. Dallas Symphony Associate Principal Cellist Yuri Anshelevic 
and pianist Christina Long will present a duo recital.  Russian-born Anshelevic 
began his cello career at the age of 9 and has since won many awards, and 
Ms. Long, along with her sister, has won many awards in North America and 
Asia. 

UTA Theatre and Theatre Arlington co-Present: WORKING Fri, Mar 28 & Sat 
Mar 29, 8pm. Sun, Mar 29, 2pm.  Performed at Theatre Arlington, 305 West

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Arlington Life Shelter Visit Thur Mar 27, 7-8pm.   To volunteer, meet us in 
front of the Mav Express at 7:00 pm We will be doing an activity with the 
children during their free time. You can sign-up to volunteer with us by either 
calling us or signing-up in our office. Limited spaces are available. Allison

Blood and Bone Marrow Drive. Buses for the Carter Blood Drive will be in out 
front of the University Center and Library Monday-Wednesday, Mar 23-25. 
Stop by anytime between 10am-3pm, no appointment is necessary. The 
National Marrow Donor Program will also be at UTA during the same date and 
times. A donation table will be set up in the University Center in the entrance 
way by the soda machines. It's free to be tested and it's just a cheek swab so

Lake Arlington Clean-up Sat, Mar 29, 7am-12pm.  We will be meeting at the 
Mav Express Office (across from Starbucks in the UC) at 7am and carpooling 
from there. Please sign up downstairs in the basement of the UC (volunteer
