It has come to the attention of the IO that some students traveling abroad
may be required to obtain "airport transit visas" when there is a connecting
flight in certain European Community countries.  These  visas must be
obtained prior to travel.

Effective March 19, 2002 European Community countries requiring "airport
transit visas" from the nationals of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, China, Rep. Of Congo, Erythree,
Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, India, Iraq, Iran, Liberia, Libya, Nigeria,
Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Palestinians
holding travel documents fro refugee status issued by Egypt, Lebanon and
Syria.

Students and Scholars who plan to make connecting flights in the following
countries may be required to obtain "airport transit visas" before leaving
the United States:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy,
Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden, United
Kingdom.

If you plan to travel through the above listed countries, contact their
consulates directly for information regarding your specific case.  Some
embassy can be obtained from www.embassy.org.
