Announcement:
The International Office is hosting a guest speaker next week who will give
a talk entitled
"Confronting the Real Threats to America's National Security" with questions
such as
"What is the real source of resentment against the U.S. in the Islamic World
and what should we do to address that?"
The speaker,Edward Abington had a distinguished thirty-year career in the
Foreign Service, most of which was spent in the Middle East or in
Washington, DC, dealing with the Arab-Israeli dispute. Mr. Abington's last
overseas assignment was in Jerusalem from 1993-1997 as the American Consul
General. He was the senior American representative working with President
Arafat and other members of the Palestinian National Authority following its
establishment in 1994. Abington helped negotiate various
Israeli-Palestinian agreements including the 1993 Oslo Agreement, the 1995
Interim Agreement, and the 1997 Hebron Agreement. He has also served at
American Embassies in Damascus, Tunis, Tel Aviv, and Islamabad. A native of
Texas, Abington attended the University of Florida where he received a BA
and an MA.

in the Rosebud Theater.

questions. The talk is free and open to the public.
