At the request of an organization called The North Texas Skeptics, Dr. Ray
Eve -- Head of the UTA Sociology Program -- will present a talk this
Saturday in Dallas on the Branch Davidians.

On Saturday, 15 April, Professor Ray Eve will give a talk on the events
surrounding the end of the Branch Davidian siege in 1993. A number of
documentary videos attempt to demonstrate that government forces killed
the more than 80 Davidians who died that day. Dr. Eve will talk about
these videos. Dr. Eve was hired by Kathy Schroeder's lawywer, Scott
Peterson, as a
social science consult for the defense. Peterson was the lead defense
lawyer until Schroeder was conviced to turn state's witness for the
prosecution. Dr. Eve spent considerable time with the
Davidians during the period just after the fire at the Mt. Carmel compound.
His talk will focus on trying to assess the many speculative and often
sensationalist claims put forth in a number
of the video documentaries concerning the events in Waco. Particular
attention will be given to two films. "The Big Lie," cited by Timothy McVey
as a major motive for the bombing in Oklahoma City, and "Waco: Terms of
Engagement" - a recent film that has generally been recognized as one of the
more sophisticated accounts.
