Howdy Soci Students!

A couple of important announcments:

1) Our next SSA meeting is Wednesday, September 22, Noon, in UH 418. We'll
be continuing our planning of student-led research regarding the social and
economic impacts of the Arlington Stadium Proposal. We'll break into
student-led research teams and begin the details of planning the research.
We'll also develop a set of research questions/goals for each team.
Currently, we have 3 primary research teams (subject to change):

Group 1: researching the impacts of stadium proposals in other cities (and
the Ballpark in Arlington).
Group 2: researching the economic and social impact of the current Arlington
proposal re: jobs, housing, crime, environment, etc..
Group 3: interview team (surveys/interviews of arlington residents,
potentially displaced residents, etc...)

If you think you might be interested in learning and doing REAL WORLD,
COMMUNITY-BASED research and also learning what we can do with research
after we complete it (WRITE it and PUBLISH it! and PUT IT ON YOUR RESUME),
please join us to learn more. This research is open to all majors, and both
graduate and undergrad students. Bring a friend!

2) Dr. Saxe's poly sci class is holding a discussion on Thursday, September
23rd, 2pm, in UH 108 about the stadium proposal. Participants will include
both representatives from groups favoring AND opposing the initiative. This
class forum is open to anyone interested in learning more or in debating the
topic. It should be VERY interesting.

Hope to see you all at both of these events! Please contact myself
([log in to unmask]) or Dr. Kunovich ([log in to unmask]) ify ou have any
questions!

Dr. McB....
