Welcome to Soci-L, the listserv for students, faculty and staff who
are interested in sociology at UTA. We will use this list to try to keep
you informed about courses, organizations, meetings, and lectures, both on
and off
campus. There will also be postings about job and internship opportunities,
and about scholarship opportunities. We are also working on a
state-of-the-art Website to compliment this listserv that will be called
"What can I do with my degree in Sociology?" It will give you names of jobs
sociologists typically take, salary ranges, alumni you can contact to ask
about their work if you are thinking of entering that field, and many other
features.
That site will probably eventually also have a job-posting board for
employers seeking new hires with social science skills. It should be up and
running for you around the end of this semsters (it's a BIG project, so it
takes a bit to put it together). A lot of the work is being done by some
sociology students, including Donald Hughes, Mathew Comeau, and Susan Small.
Many thanks to them for the sweat that is going into the project.

For some info on what listservs are, and some do's and don't, I suggest you
have a look at:

http://www2.uta.edu/library/helen/NURS3350/listserv/listserv/sld001.htm

and most especially, the User's Guide which you can find on the Web at:

http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8d/userindex.html

There you can find out more about how to post your own messages to the
listserv, how to unsubcribe (but we'd really miss you!), and so forth.

Finally, did you know that the Library at UTA has put together a terrific
site to help you do research on topics related to sociology? You can go to
the following URL to check that out:

http://www.uta.edu/library/research/rt-sociology.html

Hope you enjoy the new "Cyber-Sociology" listserv!
