Generation NeXt Comes to College

What: Generation NeXt Comes College
When: Monday November 5th, 2007, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm
Where: University Center: Rio Grande
Who: Dr. Mark Taylor (sponsored by the Division of Enterprise
Development, Office of Accounting and Business Services and Human
Resources: Office of Staff Development)

Are you interested in what it means to connect, serve, and understand
the postmodern students who are entering the University? Well, here
is the seminar that will help you do just that. If you are a manger,
supervisor, or team leader that works with students, this is must for
you as well. You are invited to join us as we host author, teacher,
and speaker Dr. Mark Taylor as he shares his insight and expertise on
Generation NeXt.

The young people of Generation NeXt tend to have characteristics and
expectations that present unique challenges to those of us charged
with teaching, guiding and assisting them through their educational
experience. They were raised in very different social environments
and have had very different formative experiences than any previous
generation. Their self-esteem issues, consumer expectations, use of
technology and styles of interacting can impact and, possibly
interfere, with their persistence and academic success. To
effectively reach, relate with and serve them, it is incumbent on us
to understand who they are and how they got to be the way they are,
and their unique challenges. This session will overview developmental
issues and their cohort traits, and offer suggestions for helping
them reach their academic and developmental goals.
