       Training and Staff Development Programs

CORE 8:

Introducing…the CORE 8! The courses in this program represent the essential skills and knowledge that every UT Arlington Maverick needs to know. Although many of these courses have been a part of the regular course list from the Office of Staff Development and other key UT Arlington departments for the past several years, we are now connecting these courses into one key program. Those completing the CORE 8 will receive campus recognition and a certificate of completion that will become a part of their employee record.

It is important to note that the program officially kicks off in January 2008, but those employees who have completed any of the course in the proceeding three years will receive credit toward the certificate of completion.

Contact Shawn DuMond in the office of Staff Development by e-mail at [log in to unmask] or by phone at 2-5518 if you want to be a part of this certificate program and then keep a regular eye on the Training Calendar for the Core 8 classes. Click n the link below to read more about the program or to view the current Training Calendar. All CORE 8 classes will be clearly marked with an “8”.

Trailblazers:

According to UT Arlington President James Spaniolo, “Mavericks are true trailblazers, who are not satisfied with the status quo.”  These words and the resonating philosophy are the foundations of the new supervisory training program: Trailblazers: Pathway to Effective Supervision. The leadership of UT Arlington and the Human Resources Office of Staff Development believe that supervisors and mangers here at our University should continually strive for greater effectiveness and development in their role. The Trailblazers program is designed to empower supervisors to build on and develop the essential skills and knowledge needed for their success and for the success of their work area and for those entrusted to their care.

Trailblazers: Pathway to Effective Supervision is a three level certificate based program, designed for both existing supervisors and those seeking to become supervisors sometime in their career future. Participants will receive a certificate after the completion of all classes in the particular level. One of the exciting elements of the program is that each level serves as the foundation for the next level. For example, a person who has completed level 1 (12 hours, 6 courses) would only have to take three additional courses (6 hours) from the level 2 course selection to receive their level 2 certificate and so on into level 3. In addition, since many of the courses that are a part of the program have been offered as a part of the on going UT Arlington staff development program, beginning January 2008 those who have completed any of the courses that are a part of the Trailblazers program in the proceeding 3 years will receive credit toward a certificate. Courses do not have to be completed in any particular order.
All classes related to the Trailblazers program are clearly marked by a “T” following the course title and appear as a regular part of the Training/Staff Development Calendar. If you have any questions regarding this program, you may contact Shawn DuMond, Training Manager, by e-mail at [log in to unmask] or by phone at 2-5518. Indispensable Administrative Professional Development Program:
In so many ways, the University of Texas at Arlington would be lost without our Administrative Professional staff. Thus it is vital that the University creates and supports a program that nurtures and develops the skill sets of these individuals.

The Indispensable Administrative Professional Development program is a four level certificate based training program designed for both existing administrative professionals and those seeking to move into one of these positions sometime in their career future. Participants will receive a certificate for each level of the program successfully completed.

One of the exciting elements of the program is that each level serves as the foundation for the next level. For example, a person who has completed level 1 (12 hours, 6 courses) would only have to take three additional courses (6 hours) from the level 2 course selection to receive their level 2 certificate and so on into level 3 and 4. In addition, since many of the courses that are a part of the program have been offered as a part of the on going UT Arlington staff development program, beginning January 2008 those who have completed any of the courses that are a part of the program in the proceeding 3 years will receive credit toward a certificate. Courses do not have to be completed in any particular order.

All classes related to the Indispensable Administrative Professional program are clearly marked by an “AP” following the course title and appear as a regular part of the Training/Staff Development Calendar. If you have any questions regarding this program, you may contact Shawn DuMond, Training Manager, by e-mail at [log in to unmask] or by phone at 2-5518.
