The Swan Scholarship

The
Swan Scholarship is a competitive scholarship that awards $1,000 toward tuition
to one full-time undergraduate student majoring in Sociology or one
full-time graduate student pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sociology.
Eligibility
requirements:
Full-time
undergraduate students majoring in Sociology and full-time graduate students
pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sociology are eligible to apply.
Recipients must be U. S. citizens or legal residents
Preference
will be given to students: (1) who are single parents, (2) who have had to
overcome personal obstacles in the pursuit of their educational goals, or (3)
who have had an interruption in their educational careers (i.e., they have not
been enrolled in an educational program, including secondary school, junior
college, college, or university, for the past 10 years and are newly enrolled
or have been enrolled at UT Arlington for the past several semesters).

submit a completed application form (available from the Department of Sociology
and Anthropology’s web page; select Sociology Program and News and
Announcements: http://www.uta.edu/sociology-anthropology/),
an unofficial transcript if available (these are free of charge; see: http://www3.uta.edu/registrar/transcript.asp),
and an essay (1,000 words or less) that discusses the
challenges facing you as you pursue your degree, your interest in Sociology,
and your goals for the future. Only complete files postmarked by or
received by Wednesday, October 28, 2009 will be considered.
