Several people have offered to help us and we'd love to have a few more volunteers, please. I always need at least one volunteer at each work station. The girls work in teams of 4 around a work station consisting of a skull model on a stand, clay tools, and clay. We have less than an hour to guide about 20 girls through the facial reconstruction on the skull model. I show how to put on the skin and add each feature according to our formulae and the volunteers help the girls to follow these directions. No prior experience is required as volunteers always pick up the instructions quickly. If you have volunteered with me before, that's great, too!
Dr. Austin has several work stations for the girls that guide them through identification of bones (human or animal?), analysing pelvic bones (male or female?), and other fascinating forensic fundamentals.
