Subject: Unique volunteer opportunity for Sociology students

Hi Bob,

My name is Suraj Goyle, and I am a Research Associate for the North Texas Food Bank.  I was referred to you by Sheri for recruiting undergraduate or graduate students at UTA who may be interested in becoming a volunteer for a research study called Hunger in America 2014 ('the Hunger Study').

Performed every four years since 1993 and commissioned by Feeding America, the Hunger Study will provide comprehensive and statistically-valid data about domestic charitable food assistance - who is in need, how the need is met, and by whom.  This is done by helping individuals who rely on food assistance programs to complete a comprehensive survey with complete anonymity and confidentiality.  Results will be used to help charitable feeding organizations develop programs that best support hungry Americans as well as raise awareness of hunger in our country and inform public policy discussions at the local, state, and national levels.

I believe any student who is passionate about social services and statistical research would be a strong volunteer for this study, which is why I am hopeful you can promote this opportunity to your student body.  I have included a link to a very short survey that will ask a few basic questions and allow those interested to sign up for a 2-hour training session.  2 hours of training are needed so that volunteers can learn how to visit feeding programs and invite clients to take a survey.  Volunteers will also need to learn how to use touchscreen tablets with self-interview software and administer a sampling plan to ensure random selections.

Here is the link for interested volunteers:  https://bitly.com/NTFBHIA

I have also attached an internship description to help promote to students.  Please let me know if this opportunity is plausible for your students or if I can produce anything more for you to help your students get more information.  Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Suraj
