Dear Members of the President's Advisory Board:

As we start a new academic year I wanted to reach out to thank you for the tremendous support you provide to the University of Texas at Arlington through your service on the Board and through so many other activities. Your guidance and support are deeply appreciated and provide the catalyst that continues to propel the University towards ever higher levels of excellence.
Yesterday the US News & World Report released its 2019 rankings and, for the first time ever, listed UTA in the top echelon of rankings of national universities. UTA was ranked #221 overall and #126 among public universities based on a complex methodology involving the use of weighted normalized values across 16 indicators. I should add that we are only the third UT System campus included in this tier following UT Austin and UT Dallas. At the undergraduate levels our College of Engineering ranked No. 116 and the College of Business ranked No. 127 nationally. This is a significant milestone made possible by the tremendous efforts of our internationally renowned faculty, our dedicated and talented staff, and our wonderful students.
In addition, Washington Monthly, which ranks schools nationally based on their contribution to the public good, listed UTA #1 in the metroplex. This ranking is based on scores in three broad categories: social mobility, by recruiting and graduating low-income students; research, by producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs; and service, by encouraging students to give something back to their country, again emphasizing the tremendous impact that UTA has through its commitment of ensuring access and excellence at an affordable cost.
Later this week we will be announcing the fall enrollment numbers and I am pleased to report that we continue to attract high achieving students from across the metroplex, the State and the nation. We welcomed the largest freshman class ever, and will report a Fall census enrollment of more than 42,000 students to the THECB, surpassing last Fall’s numbers. In addition we welcomed over 70 new faculty recruited from the top academic programs from across the nation.
I should add that we finished the 2017-18 academic year having served almost 60,000 degree seeking students through our on campus and online programs and awarded more than 14,000 academic degrees and certificates. Both these emphasize the tremendous impact of our university in meeting the needs for intellectual human capital and a highly skilled workforce for the metroplex and the state. All of this and more, further underline our tremendous trajectory to becoming one of the pre-eminent institutions of higher education, being a thought leader for the 21st century, and setting standards for others to follow.
Please remember that after our meeting on September 28th, we will have the official ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the new Science & Engineering Innovation & Research (SEIR) Building that will be held at 1:30 p.m. Next week we will forward to you additional material and details in preparation for the meeting and other related events.
This is an exciting time to be at the University of Texas at Arlington. Thank you your strong support and friendship. None of our achievements would have been possible without your leadership and guidance.

Sincerely,

Vistasp M. Karbhari
