Subject: Music course

Sociology and Anthropology students,
Dr. Michael Varner, professor of percussion and world music, has asked
me to help him advertise this year's Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble
to Sociology and Anthropology students (see the attached flyer). If you
have any interest at all in world music, you are invited to participate.
Even if you cannot read music and have no experience performing, you are
welcome (I myself have been in the ensemble for three years as an
auditor, and enjoy it immensely). All undergraduates in all UT Arlington
colleges and schools are invited to sign up.
The ensemble is a course, MUSI 0114.002, which practices Tuesday
evenings from 5:00 to 6:50 pm. The first half of the course is generally
on West African music, and the second half is devoted to Brazilian
samba. It is a great way to learn about world musical traditions, earn a
semester credit hour, and get some exercise. The ensemble performs at
schools and libraries in the Mid-Cities each semester, as well as on
campus.
For further information, contact Dr. Varner ([log in to unmask] or tel.
x2-2526).
