Music By Numbers: A Conversation About Music Industry Data Archives
In 2013, the University of Texas Libraries purchased copies of the (Recording Industry in Numbers) dating from 1994-2012 and later purchased reports through 2017. These reports provide rich data and information about the state of the record industry. These reports are a treasure trove of candid information about the record industry by the record industry. Musicians, cultural workers, journalists, librarians, and entertainment lawyers will find this event useful to learn more about the reports.

Dr. David Arditi, Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas at Arlington, will discuss archive and the difficulties UTA Libraries had purchasing the reports.

Dr. Richard Osborne, Senior Lecturer in Popular Music at Middlesex University, will discuss his edited book Music by Numbers: The Use and Abuse of Statistics in the Music Industries about how this data is used and abused.
