Food for Thought: Healthy Eating through the Holidays?!?!

People always complain of holiday weight gain- with all the food and parties, the average American gains 5-10 lbs. Let us help you avoid the New Years Resolution to lose weight by keeping off those holiday pounds.  Presented by Brie Woods, MS, RD, LD.  Brie Woods is a local Registered Dietitian who is now working with the MAC to provide nutrition consultation services to the University community.  She has a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition from California Polytechnic University and a Masters in Nutrition from Texas Woman's University.  She also works as a Clinical Dietitian in Fort Worth, TX.

Say What You Mean, Mean What You Say: Essential Communication Skills (8)

Do you struggle to find the right words in a conversation? Do you find yourself not being able to get your point across? Now is your opportunity to learn the skills that can empower you to speak clearly and effectively.

The Art of Listening  (AP)

Although most people believe they are good listeners, most people only really listen to a small portion of a conversation. If you have the desire to become a good listener, then this course is for you.

What: The Art of Listening

Where: Wetsel Service Center, Room 200

Participants will learn the basics of good listening as well as tips for identifying listening styles and how to get the most out of a face-to-face conversation.

AHA HeartSavers: First Aid with CPR and AED

Would you know what to do if someone around you was having a heart attack?

When: Wednesday, December 8th, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Where: Environmental Health & Safety Building: Training Room, 500 Summit Ave.

Who: Environmental Health and Safety Trainers

The skills you learn here could save a life. Participants will receive a CPR certification card.

Motivating Your Employees (T)

Course participants will learn how to motivate employees to a higher state of productivity and create a work environment that is beneficial to everyone and assists the department at getting the job done.

Partnering With Your Boss (AP)

As an administrative assistant, your success depends upon effectively partnering with your boss. You are often called upon to communicate, plan, organize, negotiate and participate in decision-making at very high levels. This course is specially designed to help you learn goal setting, prioritizing, planning, decision making, relationship building and listening skills.

What: Partnering with Your Boss

When: Tuesday, December 14th, 2010, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Where: Wetsel Service Center, Room 200

Who: Jake Allen

You will return to work with a better understanding of what partnering with your boss entails and a greater ability to support your organization’s goals from your position as a secretary, executive secretary or member of the administrative support staff.

Fire Extinguisher Training

When a fire breaks out, the most important decision to make is whether to fight the fire or escape. It is important that you know how to operate the fire extinguisher before you attempt to fight a fire. Come to this hands-on course and learn how to use a fire extinguisher to safely put out a small fire when appropriate

When: Thursday, December 16th, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Managing Across Generations (T)

The needs and expectations of the next generation entering the work force today are greatly different from the generation on the verge of retirement. This course helps managers and supervisors understand the needs and expectations of their own generation and other generations.

What: Managing Across Generations

When: Thursday, December 16th, 2010, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: Wetsel Service Center, Room 200

Participants will also explore how to relate to other generations without giving up their own generational identity.
