Calling All Artists! Global Mavericks Art Exhibit. This exhibition is to promote cultures, intercultural understanding, and global awareness at U T A through displayed photographs, graphics, paintings, drawings, writing, sculpture, carving, ceramics, and mixed media. Guidelines: Submissions must be based upon your personal experience and reflect how you have developed cultural understanding and/or global awareness. Sample submission ideas could be about adjusting to a different culture, a relationship you formed with somebody from a very different background, or a memorable experience that changed you and how you see the world. All U T A students and staff are welcome to participate! The exhibit will be held in the University Center Art Gallery from December 2-16. To secure a place in the exhibit, please submit as early as possible. The final deadline to submit is November 15, 2019. To submit your work, please email photos and written works to [log in to unmask] or drop work off in the UC
Lower Level B 120 during the hours of 3:30 to 4:30 p m on Monday through Wednesday and Friday. Please contact [log in to unmask] for additional information.

Global Grounds: Dia de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead

Date: Thursday, October 31
Time: 4:00 pm-5:30 pm
Location: Palo Duro Lounge, UC

Come participate in a special Global Grounds as we honor loved ones who have passed & learn about how different cultures celebrate Day of the Dead. Make your own sugar skull, write messages to loved ones for the ofrenda, enjoy Latin music, and more. Free food and beverages will be served.

Coming to Africa: The African Woman

Date: Friday, November 1
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: Rosebud Theater, UC

The African Student Organization's 5th annual "Coming to Africa" event is an Afrocentric based showcase of dance, fashion, & drama to give everyone the experience of the amazing continent of Africa.

Admission is $3 for non-members of the African Student Organization.

Homecoming Global Grounds

Date: Thursday, November 7
Time: 4:00 pm-5:30 pm
Location: Palo Duro Lounge, UC

Enjoy music, free coffee, chai, and snacks with students from across the U.S. and around the world. Come with old friends and make some new ones. Join us every Thursday from 4:00 pm- 5:30 pm in Palo Duro Lounge in the UC! During Homecoming, Global Grounds will have some extra Maverick spirit!

German Language Program Campus Week. October 30, 6 p m to 8 p m Trimble hall 200: Fall of the Berlin Wall documentary. November 6th, 12 p m, trimble hall 202: Three Decades of German unity presented by Dr. Thomas Adam, professor of transnational history at U T A. German Campus Week

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, students at the German program at the Department of Modern Languages are organizing Campus Week featuring the Berlin Wall. The event starts with a film documentary of the Berlin Wall and its fall sponsored by the German Embassy.

The highlight of the Berlin Wall  project is the exhibit of a replica of the wall that will be shown at five different locations on campus between November 4-8. Students will serve as docents and explain the historic significance of the wall and its aftermath. Some of the students will also impersonate East German border guards guarding a mini Checkpoint Charley.

A special celebration is planned for the closing of the exhibit on
November 8th.

The Center for Mexican American Studies invites you to the talk by Benito Huerta, “Reflections: Then & Now” on Wednesday, November 13th. Please see flyer for details.

This presentation will examine the various creative practices of Benito Huerta over a 40 year period. The illustrated lecture will touch on personal experiences that has spurred his interest in issues of art, architecture race, society and politics. He will discuss four areas of his practice - Christmas cards, his collaboration in art and architecture with his wife – Janet Chaffee, his own personal studio practice and his public art projects -  which will address the intersection of life and art.
